Chandigarh | Newly-appointed Dalit-Sikh chief minister and Congress leader Charanjit Singh Channi took the oath of office and secrecy along with two of his deputy in a simple ceremony here. Among the deputy chief ministers, one is from the Jat Sikh and the other from the Hindu community. There was a delay of 20 minutes due to the late arrival of party leader Rahul Gandhi in the Punjab capital. Sukhjinder Singh Randhawa and OP Soni, both ministers of the previous Council of Ministers led by Amarinder Singh, took oath for the posts of deputy chief ministers.
Rahul Gandhi reached the venue after the swearing-in ceremony was almost over. Former Chief Minister Amarinder Singh was absent at the function.
Congratulating his 58-year-old successor on Sunday, Amarinder Singh said, “My best wishes to Charanjit Singh Channi. I hope he is able to keep the border state of Punjab safe and protect our people from the growing security threat from across the border.” Will be.”
Before the swearing-in ceremony, the nominated Chief Minister paid obeisance at Gurdwara Katalgarh Sahib in his home area Chamkaur Sahib on Monday morning.
His family was also with Channi.
A three-time MLA from Chamkaur Sahib assembly constituency in Rupnagar district, Channi had joined the Congress in 2012 and was handling the portfolios of technical education, industrial training, job creation and tourism and cultural affairs in the outgoing cabinet.
