Depender Pathak IPS, Spl. Commissioner of police, (L&O) zone-i inaugurated ‘women facilitation booths’ at Satyawati College, Bharat Nagar & NSP Complex and dedicated them for Service of Women & Children.

New Delhi: On 15.02.2022, Sh. Depender Pathak, IPS, Spl. Commissioner of Police, (L&O) Zone-I inaugurated ‘Women Facilitation Booths’ at Satyawati College, Bharat Nagar & NSP Complex and dedicated them for service of women & children. Total 11 such ‘women facilitation booths’ have been established in North-West district, one each in all police stations in areas having high women footfall such as near schools/colleges, coaching complexes, busy markets etc.

As an integral part of “Tejaswini- Women Safety & Empowerment Initiative”, objective of these booths is to ensure protection of women in public, private & digital spaces. These booths are aimed at providing safety & security as well as facilitation & guidance to young women and girls.

Addressing the gathering, Sh. Depender Pathak, IPS, Spl. Commissioner of Police, (L&O) Zone-I stated that women safety & security has always been one of the top priority of Delhi Police and these women facilitation booths, as an important component of “Tejaswini- Women Safety & Empowerment Initiative” of North-West District, will act as one stop centre for women & young girls to approach police for any issue and to report any crime or violence against them. He expressed happiness and lauded the efforts of team of North-West District in taking such initiatives & thereby creating an overall environment of safety & security in the area and an enabling positive public-police partnership. He emphasized that these booths are an attempt to provide a safe & secure zone/complaint redressal mechanism for women/girls including children in the places/areas of heavy women footfalls without having to visit the police station.

In a programme held on 15.02.22 near Satyavati College, DCP/North-West District, Smt. Usha Rangnani, IPS briefed the gathering about ‘Tejaswini’ initiative (launched in July’ 2021) in which dedicated all women beats were established in sensitive & vulnerable areas as well as in areas having high women footfall. She added that establishment of ‘Women Facilitation Booths’ is a step ahead in this journey which will enhance safety & security of women & young girls and will also provide them facilitation & guidance in case of any need such as lodging of online complaints, missing reports, FIRs related to theft & other petty offences and for getting information/ updates. They will also be informed & motivated to report the cases of violence against them. The Booths shall also act as an area dominance point for Police to ensure a feeling of safety & security for the citizens where Integrated Police Checking will be conducted jointly by Local Police, Traffic Personnel & MPV Vans.

During the programme, Self Defense demonstrations were given by trained Tejaswini female police staff. A skit/natak on women safety and awareness on crime against women was presented by “Ashmita” theatre group which captivated the audience with their spectacular performances & heart touching messages.

 

The inaugural function was also graced by the presence of Dr. Nirmal Jindal, Principal Satwayati College who also lauded the efforts of Delhi Police in establishing ‘Women Facilitation Booth’ in their vicinity as the college has 33% women students, who will now feel more safe & secure with the presence of female police personnel in these booths.

These booths are established at main & busy junctions like markets/places of heavy footfalls and areas frequented by women in North-West District. It includes locations of Pragati Market in Ashok Vihar, Satyawati College in Bharat Nagar, Shankar Chowk in Keshav Puram, NSP Complex in Subhash Place, City Park Hotel in Maurya Enclave, DT Mall in Shalimar Bagh, A-Block in Mahendra Park, BC-Block in Jahangir Puri, Panchwati in Adarsh Nagar, Prince Road in Model Town and Batra Complex in Mukherjee Nagar. These have been set up with a view to enhance Women Police visibility and to instill a sense of security and safety among women.

With a goal to provide safe environment, North-West District has worked to develop, implement and evaluate comprehensive approaches to prevent and respond to every type of crime in public spaces in the area. We are hopeful that with successful implementation of this new initiative of North-West District, women of the area will feel more secure & safe and these booths will play a major role in improving Public-Police interface and providing ‘women centric services’ with ease & accessibility.
