New Delhi: Delhi CM Shri Arvind Kejriwal met with Hon’ble Lieutenant Governor of Delhi, Shri Anil Baijal, wherein it was decided that the fine for not wearing a face mask should be increased from Rs 500 to Rs 2000. The decision came in the wake of a sudden surge in the COVID-19 cases in Delhi. The CM said that even though the people of Delhi are supporting the governments in their fight against COVID, there is leniency in following the COVID safety protocols as well. He said that in the meeting with Hon’ble LG Shri Anil Baijal, it was agreed that there is a need to ‘create an effective deterrent’ to sensitize people towards wearing masks and to generate awareness in the people regarding adhering to the COVID safety protocols.
CM Shri Arvind Kejriwal tweeted, “Met Hon’ble LG. Briefed him about the corona situation in Delhi. We agreed that to create an effective deterrent so that people don’t omit wearing masks, we need to increase the fine from the present Rs 500 to Rs 2000.”
CM Shri Arvind Kejriwal said, “I just met LG sir and briefed him about the Corona situation in Delhi. We both agreed on the fact that even though many people are following the COVID protocols and wearing masks, there are still many people who are not wearing masks. They are defying the COVID protocols and exposing themselves and others to the risk of contacting Corona. Sometimes, when words do not do the task, imposing restrictions on them becomes necessary. It has been agreed to increase the fine for not wearing the masks from Rs 500 to Rs 2000. A fine of Rs 2000 will be imposed on anybody not wearing the mask. I want to appeal to everybody, to the people of Delhi, social and religious institutions, political parties to sensitize people towards wearing masks. In today’s meeting, I have requested all political parties to distribute masks to the people through their volunteers. Wearing a mask lowers your chances of getting infected by Corona
