FIR lodged against two journalists in UP for spreading ‘fake’ news

FATEHPUR (UP) | An FIR has been registered against two journalists in Uttar Pradesh’s Fatehpur district for spreading fake news on Twitter about the rape and murder of two minor Dalit girls. This FIR has been registered against a man named Dhara Singh Yadav and a journalist of a news channel. The complaint was made by Ranjit Bahadur Singh, in-charge of Asother police station.

Singh alleged in his FIR that while he was on patrol in Chichni village, he came to know that journalist and Dhara Singh Yadav of a private channel were spreading false news of the killing of two minor girls on Twitter.

He said, “Both girls died due to drowning in a pond.” But journalists were spreading fake news to create enmity between Dalits and other communities. Journalists were spreading baseless news on Twitter that the girls were found with hands and feet tied and raped and their eyes taken out. This led to increasing hostility between Dalits and other groups.

He cited a post-mortem report stating that minor girls died of drowning and there was no damage to their eyes and other parts of the body.

Let me tell you that two minor sisters were found dead in a pond in Chichni and the family accused of rape and murder, but the police said that the girls died due to drowning.
