Former CM Assam Tarun Gogoi passed away

GUWAHATI | Congress leader and three-time Assam Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi (86) died on Monday evening. Assam Health and Finance Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma gave this information. Announcing the death of Gogoi, Sarma told the media that the body of the former chief minister would be kept at the famous Srimanta Sankardev Kalakshetra in Guwahati on Monday night. The funeral will take place with full state honors on Tuesday or Wednesday after consultation with his family.

His health condition deteriorated on Monday morning. The Corona-infected 84-year-old Congress leader was undergoing treatment at the Guwahati Medical College (GMCH). In view of the poor health of Assam Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal Tarun Gogoi, all programs in Dibrugarh were canceled and returned to Guwahati. He himself informed about it by tweeting.

He was admitted to GMCH on November 2 after a critical condition and was put on a ventilator.

Doctors at GMCH said Gogoi’s health condition was slowly deteriorating and he was having trouble breathing, after which doctors placed him on a machine-operated ventilator.

The Health Minister said that doctors tried to revive her organs using various medical methods, but all attempts failed.

He said that GMCH doctors were in constant contact with experts from the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) in Delhi. Due to his critical condition, Gogoi could not be transferred outside the state for medical purposes.

Gogoi was discharged from the hospital on 25 October after recovering from Covid-19. He was given plasma therapy and later his condition stabilized.

Gogoi was found to be Covid-19 positive on 25 August and was admitted to GMCH the following day.

Gogoi represented the Titbar assembly constituency of the Jorhat district.
