New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi has said that the G20 has become a people’s movement and India’s chairmanship will lead the future course of the prestigious forum.
In an article on India’s G20 chairmanship on Thursday, the Prime Minister said that there have been three important changes in the post-pandemic world order, among other things. First, there is a growing realization that there is a need for a human-centred approach away from a GDP-centred approach.
Second, the world is recognizing the importance of strength and reliability in global supply chains.
And third, Prime Minister Narendra Modi said in the oped article, a collective call to promote multilateralism through reform of global institutions.
“Our G20 presidency has been a catalyst for these changes,” he said.
PM Modi further said that India’s chairmanship of the G20 has not only seen the largest participation of African countries, but has also emphasized the inclusion of the African Union as a permanent member of the G20.
He said, “An interconnected world means that our challenges across all sectors are interconnected. Many are deeply concerned that the Sustainable Development Goals have been derailed. The G20 2023 will work to accelerate progress on The Plan of Action will lead the future direction towards implementing the Sustainable Development Goals.”
The Prime Minister also said that India’s G20 chairmanship is working on bridging the gender digital divide, reducing the labor force participation gap, and enabling a greater role for women in leadership and decision-making.
“For India, the G20 presidency is not just a high-level diplomatic endeavour. As the mother of democracy and a model of diversity, we have opened the doors of this experience to the world,” he said.
PM Modi pointed out, “Today, getting things done on a large scale is associated with India. The G20 Presidency is no exception. It has become a people-driven movement. Over 200 meetings held in 60 Indian cities across our country It was attended by nearly 100,000 delegates from 125 countries. No Presidency has ever covered such a vast and diverse geographical expanse.”
The Prime Minister concluded, “Our G20 Presidency strives to bridge divisions, dismantle barriers and sow the seeds of cooperation that nurture a world where unity trumps discord, where shared destiny trumps separation As G20 Chair, we resolved to make the global table bigger to ensure that every voice is heard and every country contributes.”
