NEW DELHI | President Ramnath Kovind, Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Union Home Minister Amit Shah expressed condolences on the demise of veteran actor Soumitra Chatterjee. President Kovind tweeted condolences, “Indian cinema has lost a veteran actor due to Soumitra Chatterjee’s demise. He will be specially remembered for Satyajit Ray’s masterpiece Apu Trilogy. He has done his phenomenal work in the field of acting have contributed.”
The president wrote in a second tweet, “Soumitra Chatterjee received several national and international awards including the Dadasaheb Phalke Award, Padmabhushan and Legion D’Honneur for his performance. Condolences to his family, the film fraternity and his millions of fans”.
The Prime Minister tweeted and wrote, “Soumitra Chatterjee’s death is a great loss to world cinema as well as to the cultural life of West Bengal and the entire country. His death has caused great sorrow. My condolences to the family and fans. Om Shanti ! ”
Union Home Minister Amit Shah wrote in a tweet, “It is a great pain to hear about Soumitra Chatterjee’s demise. A talented actor who has taken Bangla cinema to new heights.
