Metro will resume once Delhi is partially unlocked

New Delhi| Public movement, transport, markets and malls will partially resume from Monday after a one-and-a-half-month lockdown imposed from April 19 following an unprecedented spurt in COVID-19 cases in the national capital.

With markets reopening, government and private offices are also set to resume work.

The national capital’s lifeline metro services, which were suspended following an unprecedented spike in Covid cases, will resume with 50 percent seating capacity for the general public from Monday, according to the Delhi Disaster Management Authority (DDMA). directed on Saturday.

Delhi Metro Rail Corporation Corporation, in a public notice issued before resuming its services, said that only half of the available trains will be inducted into service with a frequency of around 5 to 15 minutes on different lines.

“The general public is advised to co-operate with the metro authorities to ensure compliance with the appropriate COVID treatment inside the metro premises during their journey.”

The DMRC on Saturday said that no passenger will be allowed to stand inside the metro rail and only 50 percent seating will be allowed inside trains to ensure social distancing and compliance.

From Wednesday, more trains will be available on their own schedule.
