NDMC’s mission for Total Green by reusing sewage water for maintaining Horticulture greenery

New Delhi: Sewage Treatment Plant ( STP ) preserve the natural environment against pollution and it is the best technology for the treatment of waste-water and help safeguard the environment; it is stated by Vice Chairman, Shri Satish Upadhyay while visiting the Decentralized Sewer Treatment Plant” at Nehru Park in Chankyapuri, New Delhi on today.

While mentioning the advantages of STPs, Shri Upadhyay stated that STPs remove impurities from wastewater, or sewage, before it reaches aquifers or natural bodies of water such as rivers, lakes and oceans. STPs eliminate disease-causing bacteria and kill harmful organisms, he informed.

Shri Upadhyay stated that sewage is a combination of water and waste which contains organic and inorganic solids from various establishments such as commercial, industrial or residential etc. Hence, cleaning up of wastewater is very much required. Sewage treatment plant (STP) eliminates harmful contaminants in the most economical manner and provides a healthier environment, he said.

He further said that it is based on a Green Technology namely Soil Bio-Technology (SBT) which is one of its kind and has many benefits like no noise pollution, no air pollution, no odour nuisance, no VOC emission generated.

While giving the technical details of STPs, Shri Ajay Gupta, SE (Water Supply Division) stated that M/s Ecosystem Resource Management Pvt Ltd, Surat is fortunate to be associated with New Delhi Municipal Council in this innovative PPP Project of developing additional water resource facilities by installing STPs for treating the sewage water and utilizing the same for horticulture purpose. He said that the PPP project is a green initiative by NDMC in the direction od resource conservation and aims to set up STPS in some of the most prominent gardens of the Lutyens zone viz -Nehru Park – capacity of 500 KLD, Singapore Park – capacity of 300 KLD, BRICS Rose Garden –  capacity of 100 KLD, Gole Market –  capacity of 200 KLD and Lodhi Garden – capacity of 500 KLD.

Shri Upadhyay further said that to meet the objective, NDMC also put our best foot forward by introducing a green technology with the following salient features of STPs viz Low CapEx and OpEx Low maintenance & power consumption, No chemical consumption, Very Low sludge generation, No significant start-up period, No odour nuisance, User-friendly operation and Adaptable to hydraulic and organic shock loading.

Shri Upadhyay appreciates team NDMC and said that such initiatives help to keep the environment clean and green and contribute towards sustainable development. He said it sets an example for other municipal bodies and private organizations. He said that our mission is Total Green; presently NDMC uses 50 % usage of sewerage water but our target is 100 % and plans for the installation of more STPs in NDMC under Mission Green.

Shri Upadhyay said that the motive of NDMC behind this initiative is to beautify NDMC Green area by reusing wastewater and to achieve a 7 Star ranking in the forthcoming Swacchta Survekshan 2022. He said team NDMC is committed to implementing the vision of Hon’ble Prime Minister of India with true spirit.
