Omicron’s BA in Maharashtra 4, first cases of ba.5 sub-variant found

New Delhi: The first cases of ba.4 and ba.5 sub-variants of the Omicron strain of Kovid were found in Maharashtra on Saturday. The sub-variant has been found in at least 7 people from Pune.

A total of four infections caused by the ba.4 sub-strain of the Omicron coronavirus variant and three cases of the ba.5 sub-strain have been detected.

Cases of this sub-variant came to the fore in the state, days after the Indian SARS-Cov-2 Genomics Consortium (INSACOG) confirmed cases for the first time in India in Tamil Nadu and Telangana on Saturday.

According to the report of Insacog, a 19-year-old girl in Tamil Nadu was found infected with the BA.4 variant of SARS-CoV-2 and a male from Telangana was found to be infected with the BA.5 variant.

Insacco said in a statement, “Ba.4 and Ba.5 are sub-variants of the globally distributed Omicron variant. These were first reported from South Africa earlier this year and are now reported from several other countries.” went.” It also states that this variant does not lead to serious illness or hospitalization.
