On India-Pakistan tension, Trump said, ‘We prevented a nuclear conflict, otherwise millions of people would have died.’

Washington, May 12. US President Donald Trump once again reacted on Monday to the increased tension between India and Pakistan and the subsequent ceasefire. Trump said that he mentioned trade with the US to persuade India and Pakistan to end the hostilities last week. The tension between the two countries could have become serious.

He praised the leadership of India and Pakistan for their “intelligence” and “patience” in understanding the seriousness of the situation and ending the fighting.

President Trump said at a press conference at the White House before leaving for Saudi Arabia, UAE and Qatar in West Asia, “We are going to do a lot of trade with you, let’s stop it. If you stop it, we are doing trade. If you don’t stop it, we are not going to do any trade.”

Referring to trade with the two countries, he said, “We’re going to do a lot of trade with Pakistan, we’re going to do a lot of trade with India. We’re in talks with India right now, we’re going to be in talks with Pakistan soon.”

Doubling down on the possibility of a partial nuclear war, he said, “We prevented (a) nuclear conflict. I think it could have been a nasty nuclear war. Millions of people could have died. That’s why I’m very proud of it.”

Earlier in the briefing, he said, “My administration helped bring about a complete and immediate ceasefire between India and Pakistan, I think it was a lasting ceasefire, ending a dangerous conflict between two nations that had a lot of nuclear weapons and were attacking each other a lot and it looked like it wasn’t going to stop. I’m very proud to tell you that the leadership of India and Pakistan was steadfast, powerful, but also had the strength, wisdom and patience to fully know and understand the gravity of the situation.”

Trump had made a big announcement on Saturday regarding the tension between India and Pakistan. He claimed that India and Pakistan have agreed to an immediate complete ceasefire on the conflict that has been going on for three days. This agreement was completed with the mediation of America.
