New Delhi Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Foreign Minister S. Jaishankar on Monday expressed grief over the demise of Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi and said that India stands with Iran in its hour of grief.
Expressing grief over the demise of the Iranian leader, PM Modi said that his contribution in strengthening relations between the two countries will always be remembered.
PM Modi posted on Twitter, “Deeply saddened and shocked by the tragic demise of Dr. Syed Ibrahim Raisi, President of the Islamic Republic of Iran. His contribution in strengthening India-Iran bilateral relations will always be remembered by his family. And my heartfelt condolences to the people of Iran. Stand with Iran in their hour of grief.
The foreign minister posted: “Deeply shocked to hear the news of the demise of Iranian President Dr. Ebrahim Raisi and Foreign Minister Hossein Amir Abdollahian in a helicopter crash.”
Foreign Minister Jaishankar also recalled several meetings held with Raisi in January. “Our condolences to his family. We stand with the people of Iran at this tragedy,” he said.
Iran’s Islamic Republic News Agency (IRNA) posted on Twitter that President Ebrahim Raisi, Foreign Minister Hossein Amir Abdollahian and several other officials have died in a helicopter crash in northwestern Iran.
After this the Iranian cabinet has called an emergency meeting.
