President Kovind will inaugurate Goa’s 60th Liberation Day celebrations

PANAJI | President Ram Nath Kovind will inaugurate a cultural ceremony in Panaji on Saturday to mark the 60th anniversary of Goa Liberation Day. On 19 December 1961, the event is organized to commemorate Goa’s liberation from 451 years of colonial Portuguese rule.

Kovind will arrive at Goa’s Dabolim International Airport at 12.55 pm and then, after a brief stop at the Raj Bhavan, will garland the martyr’s memorial at Azad Maidan, located at Panaji’s city square. We will then formally launch the cultural program at 6 pm. Kovind will leave from here on Sunday evening.

Rashtrapati Bhavan said in a statement on Friday, “The President of India Ram Nath Kovind will be visiting Panaji in Goa on December 19 and 20, 2020.”

Chief Minister Pramod Sawant has said that during Kovind’s visit, various cultural groups from all regions of Goa will perform together and a 10-minute documentary related to the history of Goa will also be screened at the venue.

The Chief Minister said, “Celebrating the 60th year is not just a celebration of this occasion, it is also a celebration of the development of Goa and especially of rural Goa.”
