Republic Day: The journey of 150 years of contribution in the tableau of the Meteorological Department

New Delhi, January 23. A total of 31 tableaux, including 16 tableaux from 14 states and union territories as well as various departments of the Central Government, will be displayed in the 76th Republic Day parade on January 26 under the theme ‘Golden India: Heritage and Development’. According to the information received, President of the Republic of Indonesia Prabowo Subianto will be present as the chief guest at the 76th Republic Day celebrations.

The special thing is that this time for the first time the tableau of the Meteorological Department will be seen on the path of duty. The tableau of the Meteorological Department under the Union Ministry of Earth Sciences has never participated in the parade before.

The theme of the Ministry of Earth Sciences (IMD) has been kept as ‘Modern science is predicting extreme weather – protecting lives and livelihoods’.

The tableau will showcase 150 years of contribution of the India Meteorological Department, which has been instrumental in bringing about significant changes in society and meteorology under the Ministry of Earth Sciences. The front portion of the tableau showcases cyclone awareness efforts, including an impressive depiction of Cyclone Dana, highlighting zero loss of life due to timely warnings.

The middle portion highlights the initiatives taken for farmers, showing how mobile weather warnings have revolutionized agriculture by improving crop management and livelihoods. The last portion of the tableau depicts the impact of the Ministry on four key communities. Fishermen, who avoid dangerous seas with timely warnings; Pilots, who fly safely with updated weather information; Mothers, who protect their children from extreme weather in rural India and Scientists, who study climate change to better understand our planet.

The tableau features animated characters standing with various meteorological instruments, reflecting the Ministry’s commitment to collect and analyze weather data. The tableau showcases the vital role of the Ministry of Earth Sciences in saving lives, empowering communities, and building resilience through accurate and timely weather services, combining innovation and a human-centric approach.
