Kiev | Ukrainian officials said Friday that Russian forces have seized the Zaporizhzhya nuclear power plant, where the fire broke out due to shelling.

said, “Power Unit 4 of the plant is currently functioning, while the planned preventive maintenance in Unit 1 is underway and Units 2 and 3 have been disconnected from the grid.

The fire was brought under control at around 6.20 am after firefighters entered the site about an hour ago.
World leaders have condemned the attack on the ninth day of Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.
While British Prime Minister Boris Johnson said that Russia’s “reckless attack could directly threaten the security of Europe”. US President Joe Biden urged Moscow to halt its military activities around the site.
Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau said Russia’s “horrific attacks” must end immediately.
Ukraine currently has four active nuclear plants, including Zaporizhia, which reportedly accounts for about 25 percent of the country’s electricity.
