Tirath Singh Rawat sworn in as new Chief Minister of Uttarakhand

New Delhi| BJP MP Tirath Singh Rawat from Pauri Garhwal was sworn in as the new Chief Minister of Uttarakhand on Wednesday. The day before, Trivendra Singh Rawat resigned as Chief Minister, later he announced the appointment of Tirath Singh Rawat as Chief Minister.

Governor Baby Rani Maurya administered the oath of office to the new Chief Minister Tirath Singh Rawat at the Raj Bhavan in Dehradun.

Minutes after Rawat’s swearing-in, Prime Minister Narendra Modi tweeted, “Congratulations to Tirath Singh Rawat for taking oath as Chief Minister of Uttarakhand. He has long experience in administration and organization.”

Earlier in the day, the BJP Legislature Party held a meeting to appoint a new chief minister. Trivendra Singh Rawat, who resigned as Chief Minister after this meeting, himself announced his successor.

The meeting was attended by Union Minister Ramesh Pokhriyal ‘Nishank’, MP Ajay Bhatt, Mala Rajyalakshmi, Naresh Bansal and BJP National General Secretary and State In-charge Dushyant Gautam.

Significantly, after 3 days of uproar, Trivendra Singh Rawat resigned on Tuesday. Many party MLAs expressed displeasure over his functioning. After this, the meeting was called on the direction of the central leadership of the BJP.
