New Delhi, Timarpur: The problem of water drainage in the streets of Wazirabad area is getting serious day by day. Due to incomplete sewerage system, water is accumulating on the streets and roads, which is weakening the foundation of the houses and there is a danger of accidents.
Local people say that due to being on the banks of Yamuna, the land here is already sandy, and on top of that, with the connivance of the Municipal Corporation and the police, builders are building six-six storey flats and selling them. This is making the situation of the area more dangerous.

According to sources, during the previous Aam Aadmi Party government, sewer lines and drains were constructed from street number 1 to 17 of Wazirabad, but they were not started. As a result, the colony residents illegally connected the connections of their houses to the sewer line. But due to no drainage system, water is coming out of the houses and filling the roads and streets.

MLA accuses corruption
BJP MLA from Timarpur Surya Prakash Khatri held the previous government responsible for this situation. He said, “There has been huge corruption in the works of sewer lines and drains. These lines were neither handed over to the MCD nor did the water board accept them. The drainage was to be planned from Burari, but due to the high height there, it is not possible.”

Khatri claimed that he has written a letter to the government demanding an investigation into the scams in the sewer line construction works and strict action against the guilty officials. He said that due to corruption, the people of Wazirabad are forced to live a hellish life.

Local development work stuck in Wazirabad
The MLA also made it clear that until there is a permanent arrangement for water drainage, it is not possible to carry out the construction work of drains and streets.
