New Delhi | Delhi Police Commissioner Rakesh Asthana said on Saturday night that violent clashes broke out after stone-pelting on a Hanuman Jayanti procession in northwest Delhi’s Jahangirpuri area, but the situation was under control. “The situation is under control in today’s incident in the North-West district. Adequate additional forces have been deployed in Jahangirpuri and other sensitive areas,” Asthana said.
He further informed that senior officers have been asked to remain on the ground and closely monitor the law and order situation and do patrolling.
He said that strict action would be taken against the culprits.
“Citizens are requested not to pay heed to any rumor or fake news on social media,” Asthana said.
Although the full details of the incident have not been revealed yet, sources said that violence broke out after stone-pelting took place in the ‘Shobha yatra’ in the area.
A fire brigade official said that they received several calls regarding arson in the area in the evening.
“We cannot respond to such requests, but at 6.43 pm, we received information about a fire incident in a shop in the Jahangirpuri area, following which two fire tenders were immediately pressed into service,” the official said. ”
The injured have been admitted to Babu Jagjivan Ram Hospital.
