LG inaugurates NDMC’s three days food festivals to promote eco-friendly traditional Earthen Pottery & ethnic Indian Cuisine at Charkha Park in Connaught Place. 

New Delhi: Hon’ble Lt. Governor, Shri Vinai Kumar Saxena inaugurated a three day Food Festival “Swad Maati ka” organised by New Delhi Municipal Council (NDMC) at Charkha Park (on the top of Palika Parking) near Charkha Museum, Connaught Place.

This food fest is organized in line with Hon’ble Prime Minister’s calls for preserving our culinary heritage and promoting the use of earthen pots as an alternate to single use plastic. This will also sensitize the people and encourage them to use eco friendly and environmentally sustainable products.

Speaking on the occasion, Shri Saxena expressed satisfaction that vendors & connoisseur of Indian traditional food were participating in this festival in such large numbers. He also stressed upon the importance of traditional way of cooking that ensures healthy and nutritional food, apart from using ecologically viable earthen and clay pottery.

The LG informed that Hon’ble Prime Minister had launched a scheme for empowering of 2.5 crore potters whose livelihood is dependent on making of clay pottery and utensils. Whenever we use the pottery utensils/Kulhad it also empowers a community and generates employment, he said.

This event is an effort on part of NDMC to restore our culinary heritage and taste and encourage the use of earthen pots/utensils.
Such events are planned to be organized in other parts of Delhi as well.

In his welcome address Chairman-NDMC, Shri Bhupinder Singh Bhalla said that the food festival aims to promote the alternative products to single use plastic, which will in turn mitigate the affects of plastic on our environment.

While giving the vote of thanks, Council Member, Shri Kuljeet Singh Chahal appreciated the efforts of team NDMC for organizing such unique food festival to spread the awareness about alternatives of single use plastic as well as taste of traditional food served in the pottery utensils.

The Food Festival will continue till Sunday, 21st August, 2022. This food festival is being organized under the aegis of ‘Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav’ to promote eco-friendly pottery utensils.

On the occasion, Council Members – Smt. Vishakha Sailani, Senior Officers of NDMC, representative of Market Traders Associations, Hotels, Food Chains, Food vendors and Restaurants were also present.
