New Delhi, Oct 6 Foreign Minister S. Jaishankar on Sunday described Artificial Intelligence (AI) as dangerous to the world as nuclear bombs, saying that this rapidly emerging technology will deeply affect the whole world in the next decade.
Addressing the Kautilya Economic Conclave organized in partnership with the New Delhi-based Institute of Economic Growth and the Ministry of Finance, Jaishankar said that AI is going to grow a lot in the coming times and countries should be prepared to deal with its effects. It is also going to be an important factor for the global ecosystem. “AI will be something as dangerous for the world as nuclear bombs were at one time”.
The Foreign Minister said that demography, connectivity and AI will change the global order. Globalization can be weaponized in the next decade and the world should be cautious about it. Many in the world blame it for unemployment and other negative effects of revolution.
The foreign minister said, “Social and political reaction to globalisation has gained momentum in the last decade. The realities of globalisation inevitably clash with protectionism.”
Jaishankar further said that in today’s era, the role of the United Nations has remained only that of a spectator. He said, “The United Nations is an old business, which is taking up a lot of space, but is not changing according to the world.”
On the ongoing conflict in the Middle East countries, Jaishankar said that today the fight is only for economic corridor, land and sea, but in future there will be fights for climate change as well.
