CBSE National Conference Focuses on Bridging the Gap Between Education and Employment

New Delhi: Skills are set to be given the same importance as formal academics. To this end, the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) is hosting a national conference centered on linking school education with employment. The objective is to ensure that students are not confined to mere textbook knowledge, but are instead well-prepared to transition seamlessly into higher education, vocational training, or the professional workforce upon completing their schooling.

The event is being held in New Delhi on Monday, October 26, and Tuesday, October 27. A key focus of the conference is the implementation of a national credit framework, which would provide formal recognition for students’ skills at various stages of the educational system. The goal is to shift the focus of learning beyond just examinations and grades, ensuring that practical knowledge and skills are also valued. Furthermore, discussions are underway on how to integrate skill-based education into the mainstream school curriculum. This would enable students to understand the demands of the professional world while still in school and develop the competencies necessary for their future careers.

This fourth national conference, themed “Easing the Transition from School to the World of Work,” brings together school principals, educators, industry experts, and policymakers. The event is being organized in collaboration with various school associations from Delhi and the National Capital Region (NCR). The conference explores strategies to prepare students to meet evolving demands.

T.K. Anil Kumar, Secretary of the Department of School Education and Literacy, and Dr. Mandeep Bhandari, Chairman of the CBSE, were present at the conference. In his address, T.K. Anil Kumar highlighted four key areas of focus: technology, digital safety, and skill-based design; fostering creativity and innovation; recognizing skills at different levels of the education system; and providing career guidance alongside equal opportunities for all students. It was stated that there should be better synergy between school education, higher education, skill training, and employment. This will help students make informed decisions about their future, allowing them to pursue paths aligned with their interests and capabilities. Consequently, they will be able to contribute to society and lead a life of dignity. The two-day conference also includes discussions on innovative pedagogical approaches, evolving assessment systems, and the integration of digital technology in education.

Experts are deliberating on how to make teaching more effective, ensuring that students are well-equipped to face the challenges of a dynamic job market. Educators and academics from CBSE-affiliated schools are sharing their experiences, presenting research papers and posters on successful skill-based education initiatives. These insights will provide other schools with the opportunity to adopt effective practices and enhance the quality of education within their own institutions.

This conference aligns with the vision of the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020, which emphasizes bridging the gaps between various educational streams and preparing students for future requirements. The event also fosters collaboration among schools, educational experts, and the industry. This will facilitate the development of new ideas and practical strategies to provide students with proper guidance and ensure a smoother transition from education to employment.
