SHIMLA: Sh. Nand Lal Sharma, CMD, SJVN today virtually addressed the participants of ‘India-Nepal Development Partnership Conclave.’ Hon’ble Deputy Prime Minister & Minister of Physical Infrastructure and Transport, Government of Nepal Sh. Narayan Kaji Shrestha was the chief guest of the conclave.
Sh. Nand Lal Sharma, key Speaker and Panelist of the session ‘Strengthening Cross-border Connectivity for mutual benefit’ said that SJVN is a Key Partner and Trusted Investor in socio-economic development of Nepal. Company through its fully owned subsidiary SJVN Arun-3 Power Development Company (SAPDC), is executing one of Nepal’s transformative Public Private Partnership Project i.e 900 MW Arun-3 Hydro Electric Project. This is the largest Foreign Direct Investment in Nepal. SJVN is also executing 669 MW Lower Arun Hydro Project & 490 MW Arun-4 Hydro Project on the same Arun river basin.
Sh. Nand Lal Sharma expressed gratitude towards Government of India & Nepal for showing faith in SJVN and allocating hydro projects of 2059 MW in Nepal. He also thanked Embassy of India, Nepal, Office of Investment Board of Nepal, various Departments & Ministries of Govt. of Nepal for their continuous support and partnership that is strengthening bilateral ties between the two neighbouring countries.
Sh. Nand Lal Sharma stated that SJVN aims to secure hydro projects of 5000 MW by 2030. Allocation of economically viable hydropower projects of Nepal to SJVN would be a mutually beneficial endeavour for both nations. It will help Nepal in becoming the power house of hydro energy in the region, thus, resulting in overall socio-economic growth of Nepal. For India, the export of hydro power will complement the ever-increasing energy generation from renewable resources and will contribute in grid stability.
The Conclave was organized by Embassy of India, Kathmandu in collaboration with Centre for South Asian Studies at Kathmandu Nepal. On this occasion, Indian Ambassador to Nepal His Excellency Sh. Naveen Srivastava, Chief Secretary Sh. Shanker Das Bairagi, other eminent dignitaries and speakers of international repute were also present. The conclave is an outreach initiative by Indian Embassy to give a platform to the stakeholders & interlocutors to exchange information about the development initiatives and ongoing cooperation in Nepal as well as future prospects.
