Countrywide lockdown implemented in Lebanon

BEIRUT| A two-week lockdown has been imposed in Lebanon, following which all restaurants, bars, cafes, gyms and malls have closed. This decision has been taken in view of the increasing infection of Covid-19. Police have been deployed in most areas of the country under a lockdown that came into effect on Saturday, Xinhua reported, ready to take action against those who violate the ban.

Acting Prime Minister Hassan Diab has appealed to the citizens of the country to follow the lockdown rules, prioritizing health over the economy.

The lockdown is not a solution to the problem, Diab said, but it is a chance to increase preparedness for the nation’s health sector, with a dramatic increase in coronavirus infections in the past few weeks.

The number of covid-19 infections in Lebanon exceeded 100,000, while the death toll is approaching 800.

The country has been fighting the virus since 21 February.
