Fugitive diamond trader Mehul Choksi caught in Dominica: report

New Delhi| Fugitive diamond trader Mehul Choksi, wanted by the CBI and ED in the Punjab National Bank (PNB) loan fraud case, has been allegedly detained in Dominica. The Antigua Observer reported that Choksi is in the custody of the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) in Dominica.

Choksi was reported missing on Sunday from Antigua and Barbuda, where he took citizenship, triggering a search for the fugitive businessman.

According to reports from the local media Antigua News Room, Atlee Rodney, the commissioner of the Royal Police Force of Antigua and Barbuda, said on Sunday that the force was tracing the whereabouts of Choksi, who is reportedly missing.

CBI sources said here that he was apprehended based on a red corner notice issued earlier by Interpol.

However, another CBI source said that the agency has not yet received official confirmation about the capture of Choksi.

Choksi, an accused in a PNB fraud case of over Rs 13,500 crore, has been living in Antigua and Barbuda since January 4, 2018, along with his nephew Nirav Modi.
