Government of India banned more than 200 Chinese apps

New Delhi| The central government has once again done a digital strike on Chinese apps. The Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology has banned more than 200 Chinese apps on the orders of the Union Ministry of Home Affairs following continuous complaints against loan and betting apps. This includes 138 betting apps and 94 loan apps. According to the report, the government has shown strictness against the apps in view of the security of the country. According to the information, recently the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology was ordered by the Union Ministry of Home Affairs to ban such apps which operate through third-party links.

Sources said that all these apps were found to be in violation of Section 69 of the IT Act and contained content deemed to be a threat to the sovereignty and integrity of India.

According to sources, these apps were used to target economically weak people. After giving the loan, an interest of up to 3,000 percent was given annually. When the borrowers were unable to repay the interest, the people working for these apps started torturing them mentally, due to which many such people trapped in the loan trap have also committed suicide.

The matter came to light after several cases of suicides by borrowers of these apps were reported in Andhra Pradesh and Telangana. On the other hand, Chinese apps can potentially misuse server-side security by using them as spying tools, as they have access to critical data of many Indians. Access to such data can be used for espionage on a large scale, due to which all such apps are considered as a threat to the country.

The Ministry of Home Affairs started investigating some Chinese loan-giving apps about six months ago. Investigation revealed that 94 such apps were available on e-stores and operated through third-party links. At that time, the security agencies had demanded the ministry to ban such betting (betting) and lending apps.

Significantly, in 2022, the Center banned 54 Chinese apps that were a threat to the security of the country.
