New Delhi: Hon’ble Lt. Governor – Delhi, Shri Vinai Kumar Saxena and Minister of State for Culture and External Affairs, Govt of India, Smt. Meenakshi Lekhi yesterday inaugurated newly constructed residential complex “Palika Amrit Kaal Niwas” for employees of the New Delhi Municipal Council (NDMC) at Aliganj – Jor Bagh, New Delhi and distributed allotment letters to the occupants – mainly sanitation workers of NDMC.
The Chairman – NDMC, Shri Amit Yadav, Vice Chairman – Shri Satish Upadhyay, Members of the Council – Shri Kuljeet Singh Chahal, Smt. Vishakha Sailani, Secretary – Dr. Ankita Chakarvarty and other senior officers were present on the occasion.
Speaking on the occasion, the Lt. Governor who had handed over allotment letters to the occupants said that these newly constructed modern flats were in line with the Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi’s overall vision of dignified living conditions for every individual, comprising aspirational India. He reiterated that sanitation workers were the cornerstone upon which the edifice of a healthy and clean society rested.
Palika Amrit Kaal Niwas residential complex comprising 200 Type II flats in four 10-storey towers has been constructed over the total area of 8081 sqm at the cost of Rs. 40.33 Crores, against the expected expenditure of Rs.49 Crores. Each flat area is 54.36 sqm. Total eight lifts have been installed in the Residential Complex, with each tower having two lifts.
The Residential Complex is an Earthquake Resisting Structure and provision of Fire Alarm and Fire Fighting system have been put in place. There are also provisions for Overhead and Underground water tanks for Fire Fighting and Domestic water use. Proper Rain Water Harvesting system is also one of the salient features of this housing complex.
Earlier, there were 130 numbers of Type-I flats at the premises which had outlived their utility life span and were in a depilated state. After a survey report, the old flats were demolished and the Architecture Department of NDMC prepared the plan for construction of new flats on the same land.
