New Delhi, November 16 10 newborns died in a fire in the NICU ward of Jhansi Medical College on Friday. Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi expressed grief and demanded strict action against the culprits. At the same time, expressing condolences to the bereaved family, Priyanka Gandhi said that words of condolence and consolation are useless at this time of great disaster.
Rahul Gandhi wrote in his X post, “I am deeply saddened by the news of the death and injury of many newborns in the tragic accident at Jhansi Medical College. I express my deepest condolences to the bereaved families.”
Surrounding the UP government, he said, “Such tragic incidents happening one after the other in Uttar Pradesh raise many serious questions about the negligence of the government and the administration. The government should ensure that the injured children get the best possible treatment. Also, this tragic incident should be investigated immediately and strict legal action should be taken against the culprits.”
Congress leader Priyanka Gandhi also expressed her condolences and wrote in an ex-post, “Shocking news has come from Jhansi’s Maharani Laxmibai Medical College, where ten children have died due to a fire in the intensive care unit of newborns. Words of grief and condolence are useless in this time of great tragedy. We stand with the families and guardians in this difficult situation.”
Congress spokesperson Pawan Khera wrote in an ex-post, “The death of children due to fire in the NICU of Jhansi Medical College is heart-breaking.”
Accusing the state government, he wrote, “This needs to be called murder, not death. This incident shows that there is no such thing as a government in Uttar Pradesh. The system has completely failed. The Chief Minister has no time from hateful slogans, who will care about the hospitals?”
Congress leader BV Srinivas wrote in an ex-post, “The fire extinguishers installed in Jhansi Medical College had expired many years ago.”
