New Delhi, 26 June, 2021. With the aim to improve the green lush heart area of Capital city of India, New Delhi Municipal Council ( NDMC ) has kicked start the Mass Plantation Drive under Van Mahotsava in its area today.
Shri Dharmendra, Chairperson and Dr. BM Mishra, Secretary – NDMC along with morning walkers planted a sapling of Kalpvriksh, Putranjiva, Amaltas and other indigenous trees across in whole Nehru Park, Chankyapuri in New Delhi at morning today.
NDMC’s mass tree plantation drive actively participated by people from all walk of life like general public, morning walkers of gardens and parks, visitors of New Delhi area, Children, Residential Welfares Associations ( RWAs ), Market Traders Associations ( MTAs) and others.
NDMC has set a target for the year 2021-22 plantation of total 3850 trees and 5 Lakh Shrubs, which will be achieved during entire monsoon season.
During the Van Mahotsava, NDMC will plant total 1475 Trees and 99831 Shrubs plants in the various locations of NDMC area.
Today under the Van Mahotsav – tree plantation drive, NDMC has planted as many 513 Nos trees, 40000 Nos shrubs and more than 50000 Nos ground covers in the area of North and South Horticulture Zone of NDMC.
In New Delhi, today main areas covered under the drive are Safdarjung Road, Nehru Park, Palika Niketan, Sector-10 – R.K. Puram, 3rd Avenue Road, Lodhi Garden, Shankar Road, Talkatora Garden, Parliament Street & Annexe, Firozshah Road, Harish Chander Mathur Lane , Central Park – Connaught Place, Jai Singh Road , Mandir Marg, Padara Road, Mansingh Road, Teen Murti Marg , Max Mueller Marg , Lodhi Colony, Laxmi Bai Nagar, Maharishi Raman Marg and Charak Palika Hospital – Moti Bagh , New Delhi.
The sapling of trees consisting Species like Ashoka, Peepal, Jamun, Arjun, Har singar, Bottle Brush, Amaltas, Silver Oak, Champa, Putranjiva, Bougainvillea, Lagestromia,
thorollii, Plumeria alba(Temple Tree) had been planted in gardens, parks and along with side of avenues roads in New Delhi.
During the van mahotsav, the tree plantation drive will cover the remaining area of NDMC in the second and third phase continues on 3rd and 10th July, 2021.
In order to maintain and upkeep of environment of New Delhi area, NDMC maintaining 1500 acres of green area and 135 Green Avenues, 10 Major Parks,1400 Residential Colony Parks, 52 Roundabouts, 10 departmental Nurseries including 3 Hi- Tech Nurseries, 3 International Relationships Memorial Parks, many Happiness Areas and prestigious Garden like Nehru Park, Lodi Garden, Talkatora Garden and Sanjay Jheel, Children Park, India Gate, Central Parks, Connaught Place, CWG Park, Shanti Path etc.
