Gandhinagar| The last rites of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s mother Heeraben Modi were performed at the cremation ground in Gandhinagar on Friday morning. Hiraben’s U.N. of Ahmedabad. Mehta passed away at the hospital, where he was admitted on Wednesday for some heart-related problems. Narendra Modi and his elder brother Somabhai cremated the mortal remains of Heeraben.
Former Chief Minister Shankersinh Vaghela personally accompanied the Prime Minister at the cremation ground to offer condolences.
The Prime Minister flew in from Delhi early in the morning and paid floral tributes to his mother.
Vadnagar city will remain closed for the whole day as a mark of respect to the departed soul. Vadnagar Traders Association has appealed to the members to keep the shutters down.
Paying tribute, Union Surface and Transport Minister Nitin Gadkari said in his tweet, “May her soul rest in peace and I pray to God to give strength to the family to bear the loss.” Paying tribute, he said, “Deeply saddened to hear about the passing away of Heeraben Modi. My heartfelt condolences to Narendra Modi on the passing away of his dear mother. Our thoughts and prayers are with the entire family during this time of sorrow.
Paying tribute, Congress General Secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra tweeted, “May God give strength to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and his family to face the loss of Heeraben.”
