Silkyara Tunnel Accident: Auger Machine Platform Collapsed, Drilling Stopped Again

Uttarkashi: On the 12th day of the Silkyara tunnel accident, the platform of the auger machine collapsed, due to which the drilling work had to be stopped on Thursday evening. So far, 45 meters of drilling have been done. The rescue operation is continuing to rescue 41 laborers trapped in the tunnel. Meanwhile, seven more pipes have been put in the tunnel.

Girish Singh Rawat, one of the members of the rescue operation team, said, “Drilling cannot be done until the platform is ready. It may take 5 to 6 hours to prepare the platform. Now about 10 to 12 meters of drilling is left.” As soon as the drilling is completed, the workers trapped in the tunnel will be taken out and admitted to the hospital.”

In view of the Silkyara Tunnel Rescue Operation, a temporary Chief Minister Camp Office has been set up in Matali. Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami reached Silkyara on Thursday morning. He took stock of the rescue operation and discussed it with the experts present there. He also talked to the workers trapped in the tunnel through a walkie-talkie and encouraged them.

Due to CM Dhami’s stay at Ground Zero in Silkyara, the IGAS program to be held at the Chief Minister’s Office in Dehradun on Thursday evening has been postponed.

Uttarkashi DM Abhishek Ruhela also reached the rescue operation site. He said that the rescue operation to save 41 laborers trapped in the tunnel is almost in the final stages. A pipeline is being laid in the tunnel to evacuate the workers. The pieces of steel stuck in the debris have been cut and removed. Hopefully, good results will come soon.
