World mourns over Ahmedabad plane crash, global leaders express grief

New Delhi: The news of the crash of Air India flight AI171 going to London shortly after taking off from Ahmedabad airport has sent a wave of mourning across the world. There were more than 240 passengers on board the plane. The accident took place near the Meghaninagar area of ​​​​the city.

British Prime Minister Keir Starmer expressed deep sorrow, calling the accident a “devastating scene”. He wrote on the social media platform X, “The news of the crash of a London-bound plane in Ahmedabad is very sad. There were many British citizens on board this plane. I am constantly taking information about the situation. My condolences are with the victims and their families.”

At least 169 Indians and 53 British citizens were on board the plane and it was heading towards London’s Gatwick Airport.

British Defense Minister David Lammy also expressed deep condolences on the accident. He said, “I am deeply saddened by the news of this horrific plane crash in Ahmedabad. My condolences to all the affected people. The UK government is working with local Indian authorities to gather facts and provide assistance.”

British Conservative Party MP Priti Patel appealed to the UK government to work with the Indian government to provide help to British families.

He said, “My prayers go out to all those affected by the plane crash in Ahmedabad. This accident is a matter of great concern for the families whose loved ones were on board the plane. The government should immediately work with the Indian authorities to help British citizens.”

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky also expressed deep condolences on this tragic accident. He said, “Horrific news has been received about the passenger plane crash in India. My deepest condolences to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the people of India. We are with the victims of India, UK, Portugal and Canada. I wish the injured a speedy recovery.”

Russian Ambassador to India Denis Alipov also described the accident as a “horrific tragedy” and said, “Heartbreaking news coming from Ahmedabad. My deepest condolences to the families of the victims, the people and the government of India.”
