Mumbai| Shapoorji Pallonji Group chief and former Tata Sons chairman Cyrus Mistry died in a road accident in Palghar, northern Maharashtra on Sunday afternoon. He was 54 years old. The accident happened when his vehicle collided with a road divider. Three people were traveling in the vehicle along with Mistry.
Mistry’s death came two months after his father Pallonji Mistry died on June 28 at the age of 93.
According to police officials, Mistry was on his way from Ahmedabad to Mumbai when his car rammed into a road divider on the Surya river near Charoti. Four people were in the car, out of which two including Mistry died on the spot. The vehicle was badly damaged in the accident.
The other two injured, who has not been identified, have been admitted to a local hospital in Casa.
The main cause of the accident is not clear, although it is suspected that the speed of the vehicle was very high and the entire area (Palghar) had been raining heavily since Saturday.
The news has shocked the Indian corporate and political circles. Many people could not believe that Cyrus Mistry was dead.
Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde expressed grief over the incident and said that Mistry’s death is a big loss not only to his family but also to the industrial world of the country.
NCP MP Supriya Sule expressed grief over the incident and said, Sad news my brother, Cyrus Mistry has passed away. Can’t believe it. Rest In Peace Cyrus.
