Joharan Mamdani, son of filmmaker Meera Nair, won primary from Democratic Party, will now contest for New York State Assembly


Joharan Mamdani, son of filmmaker Meera Nair, is a rapper and housing counselor. He is the second Indian to win primary elections from New York in the US. 

Sitting Assembly member Aravela Simotas admitted defeat to Joharan Mamdani in a tweet on Friday. Indian-born Jennifer Rajkumar also won the primary election a few days ago.

Filmmaker Meera Nair’s son Joharan Mamdani won the primary election from a New York City constitution.

He contested on a Democratic Party ticket. He will now contest a member of the New York State Assembly. The Board of Elections has not yet formally announced the results. But, sitting assembly member Aravela Simotas admitted his defeat to Mamdani in a tweet on Friday. In January next year, two Indians will contest the New York Assembly elections. Along with Mamdani, Jennifer Rajkumar also won the primary election a few days ago.

Mamdani is also a social worker

Mamdani, 28, is a rapper and housing counselor. He has made a rap video granny. Madhur Jafri has acted in it. As a Housing Counselor, they help those evacuated. He has the support of the Left Wing Democratic Party and the Democratic Socialist Alliance. They also run a campaign called ‘Roti and Roses’ to provide affordable homes to the people. Under this, the landlords and the persecuted people from big corporations are helped.
