Know what history is associated with the two women chief ministers of Delhi, Atishi’s path is not easy

New Delhi, September 21. After senior BJP leader Sushma Swaraj and Congress’ Sheila Dixit, Delhi has got its third woman Chief Minister in the form of Atishi Marlena. After Aam Aadmi Party convenor Arvind Kejriwal resigned from the post of Chief Minister, Atishi was elected the leader of the legislative party in the AAP legislative party meeting. As such, she will hold the reins of power as CM till the upcoming Delhi Assembly elections. Before Atishi Marlena, Sushma Swaraj and Sheila Dixit have held the post of CM of Delhi. The tenure of these two women Chief Ministers has witnessed many historic decisions. Senior BJP leader Sushma Swaraj holds the record of becoming the first woman Chief Minister of Delhi. In the year 1998, Sushma Swaraj was made the Chief Minister after the then CM Sahib Singh Verma left the post. She was the CM of Delhi from 13 October 1998 to 3 December 1998. Her tenure of 52 days as CM was full of challenges more than achievements. Sushma Swaraj took over as CM at a time of crisis. Because the then Chief Minister Sahib Singh Verma had resigned due to the rise in onion prices in Delhi. During her short tenure, Sushma Swaraj took many big decisions on the issue of women’s safety and law and order, which proved to be a milestone in her political life. Both Swaraj and Atishi became Chief Ministers a few months before the assembly elections at a time of political crisis within their respective parties. In the Delhi Assembly elections held in 1998, BJP had to face a crushing defeat. On the other hand, the Congress party returned to power with a big mandate. A new government was formed in Delhi under the leadership of Sheila Dikshit. Sheila Dikshit’s tenure witnessed many big achievements. During her reign, the Commonwealth Games were successfully organized in Delhi. Along with the construction of better roads in Delhi, a network of flyovers was laid. Delhi Metro Train is one of the biggest achievements of the Sheila Dikshit government.

She implemented many development projects to make Delhi a world class city. Under her leadership, Delhi’s infrastructure improved significantly. This includes the expansion of the transport network as well as large-scale revolutionary reforms in education and health services. Sheila Dixit was the Chief Minister of Delhi for 15 years from 1998 to 2013. She was always in the news for her good governance model. Atishi Marlena’s path as CM is not going to be easy. She does not have much time to take forward the development work. Because the term of the Delhi Assembly is going to end in the beginning of the next year. In such a situation, implementing public welfare schemes and conveying the achievements of her government to the public is the biggest challenge for her. The opposition is attacking AAP these days regarding free electricity, water and all other basic facilities in Delhi, in such a situation, maintaining the image of the government is a big challenge for Atishi Marlena. At the same time, maintaining coordination with her cabinet colleagues and the Lieutenant Governor along with the administrative front will also be a big challenge for Atishi.
