New Delhi August 15:New Delhi Municipal Council (NDMC) – Chairperson, Shri Keshav Chandra hoisted the National Flag on the occasion of 79th Independence Day of India, at NDMC Headquarter – Palika Kendra today.

On the occasion of hoisting the Flag at NDMC Headquarter, Vice-Chairman, NDMC – Shri Kuljeet Singh Chahal, Council Member Shri Anil Valmiki, Secretary- NDMC, Shri Tariq Thomas, Senior Officers and Officials, School students and teachers were also present.
While remembering and paying his tribute to the great freedom fighters and Jawans of Armed Forces and Paramilitary Forces who laid their lives for the Freedom of the Nation and protecting the boundaries of our country from the enemy, Shri Keshav Chandra commended and lauded their role in the Freedom Movement and Security of Nation.

Before starting his independence day address, Shri Chandra told the story of brave Kanaklata Barua who sacrificed her life for hoisting the Tiranga against the British Rulers. Kanaklata’s sacrifice teaches us that age may be small, but the courage of patriotism is limitless. Therefore, we should always be ready to sacrifice for the service of the country.
Shri Chandra specially mentioned the bravery of armed forced in the Sindoor Operation and said that this year we must not forget the tale of valour and courage of Operation Sindoor during which our forces not only defended the country with their technical prowess but also defeated the enemy country and for this tireless efforts of scientists and engineers for this must not be forgotten.

Shri Chandra stated that the freedom does not only give rights, but it also makes us aware and responsible towards our duties. Our freedom fighters dreamt of an India that is educated, self-reliant, clean environment, just and prosperous. Today it is our duty to make that dream a reality.
NDMC understands its responsibility as the institution that oversees this historic and internationally important area of the country’s capital. Our aim is not only to provide basic amenities but also to develop this area to global standards.
Shri Chandra said that on this auspicious festival of Independence, I request all the members of the Municipal Council, officers, employees, school children and citizens to cooperate in achieving these goals, so that we can provide better services to the citizens and service consumers here.

Shri Chandra said that he not only hope but have full faith that all of you will make the Municipal Council the best Municipal Council in the country with your efforts and will also give it the pride of being a better capital in the world. Let us all together take a pledge that we will faithfully perform our duties, protect the unity and integrity of the country, and contribute to making India the leading nation in the world in the 21st century.
Before hoisting the National Flag, the Security and Fire Personnel of the NDMC gave guard of honour to the Chairperson- NDMC.

On the occasion of Independence Day, NDMC has lit up its Headquater, Convention Centre, NDCC Building, Connaught Place, Chandrlok Building, Lok Nayak Bhawan and other prominent buildings with around 37500 tricolour bulbs.
Total 2600 number of National flags were displayed at the electric poles on the avenue roads in the entire NDMC. Apart from this 36 floral boards and floral fountains congratulating citizens for 79th Independence Day along roadsides were also displayed in the New Delhi area by NDMC.
