Vijay Sampla becomes the new chairman of the National Scheduled Castes Commission

 


New Delhi | Former Union Minister Vijay Sampla took over as the chairman of the National Scheduled Castes Commission (NCSC) on Wednesday. Speaking to the media after assuming office, Sampla said that he would work continuously to protect the interests and rights of the SC community. The commission will not only work to ensure justice to the SC but will remain active to prevent any kind of injustice with the community.

He further said that the Commission will participate in the planning process of socio-economic development of Scheduled Castes and will give the advice to prevent atrocities against them.

He assumed the position in the presence of Union Minister of State for Social Justice and Empowerment Krishnapal Gurjar, Union Minister Som Prakash, former NCSC Chairman and BJP MP Hans Raj Hans and other members of the Commission.

Sampla has been the Union Minister of State for Social Justice and Empowerment from 2014 to 2019.

He has also been the president of BJP’s Punjab unit. He also served as the Chairman of the Khadi and Village Industries Board, Punjab from 2009 to 2012 and was later recommended for the President’s Award.

He won the 2014 general election from the Hoshiarpur Lok Sabha constituency in Punjab and was the Union Minister of State for Social Justice and Empowerment in the first term of the Narendra Modi government.

The Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment said in a statement that Sampala has been actively involved in the upliftment and welfare of the deprived sections of the society, especially for the Scheduled Castes. He assumed office today after being appointed as the Chairman of the Scheduled Castes Commission by the President.
